Attend your choice of one of four breakout workshops about how to better support LGBTQ+ youth, then enjoy brunch during which you can converse and network with educators about a variety of LGBTQ+ topics!   This event is free for educators but space is limited and registration is required.

Workshop Choices:
Beyond the Classroom: Creating an Inclusive School Climate
How can teachers, administrators, counselors, front office staff and other school employees work together to create an LGBTQ+ affirming school environment? This session will explore policies and practices beyond the walls of an individual teacher’s classroom.

Deep Run: Being Trans in Rural NC (film + discussion)
This session will center around the film Deep Run, about a transgender teen in rural North Carolina. We’ll watch the film and discuss the issues that the film highlights.

Physical and Mental Wellness for LGBTQ+ Students (panel)
This panel will include experts on queer and trans mental health, LGBTQ+ affirming sex educators, and more. We’ll talk about supporting the holistic health of queer young people.

Queer Students of Color and Discipline Policies
This session will examine the ways in which schools disproportionately control or punish the behavior of QPOC, and discuss solutions at the classroom and administrative level.

LGBTQ+ Brunch and Learn is a collaboration between Safe Schools NC and the WCPSS Office of Equity Affairs.
